Kendo World Keiko-Kai at the Nippon Budokan

We have joined up with our good friends at Kendo World in Japan to document their first official Keiko-kai at the Nippon Budokan on 30th June, 2012. As always with Kendo World the kendo will be of a very high quality. The instructors for the event are the following:

  • Inoue Yoshihiko Sensei, H8-dan, Shizuoka
  • Masago Takeshi Sensei, H8-dan, Tokyo
  • Hirakawa Nobuo Sensei, K8-dan, Tokyo
  • Ozawa Hiroshi Sensei, K8-dan, Tokyo
  • Shigematsu Sensei, K8-dan, Chiba
  • Mochizuki Sensei, K8-dan, Shizuoka
  • Kawanabe Sensei, K8-dan, Shizuoka
  • Yokouchi Sensei, K8-dan, Tokyo
  • Ishibashi Hitoshi, K7-dan, Chiba
  • Oya Minoru, K7-dan, Chiba
  • Kato Jun’ichi, K7-dan, Saitama

The first hour was a demonstration of the Nihon Kendo Kata which was superb. This was followed by kihon-geiko (basic practice) with instruction from H8-dan Inoue Yoshihiko Sensei (pictured). After a short break, the second hour was shido-geiko – keiko with the attending 8-dan and 7-dan sensei. At the end of the seminar, we had the chance to interview Inoue Yoshihiko Sensei, although the answers had to be brief as we had to follow a tight schedule and lunch was waiting (and a few beers)! During the afternoon lunch a raffle was held and Empty Mind Films donated five DVD’s of the Art of the Japanese Sword. Congratulations to Kendo World Magazine for a great event and to its editor Alex Bennett 7th-dan and his fellow team-mates at Kendo World. More to follow…
