Born In 1930s

It was really a surprise when my grandpa told us at one dinner that he would go to attend a meeting with his junior middle school classmates the next day.

Born in 1930s, the generation of my grandfather has witnessed many big events of China, including the Civil War in 1940s, the Great Leap, the Cultural Revolution, Reform and Opening up, etc. With such rich experiences, it has naturally become my grandpa’s advantage to compare modern days with the old ones and tell us how happy the modern days are.

My grandpa is a big fan of Chairman Mao, and he is very satisfied with present life. “In my young days, people always dreamed the future life as living in apartment buildings and use light bulbs and telephones, now the life is much better than that.”

The voice was echoed by some of my grandpa’s classmates at that big meeting the next day. Almost 20 classmates took part in the meeting. Graduated in 1953, there are now all in their 70s. Some are living a happy life, while some not. The monitor, for example, was once the best student in the class, but he is now abandoned by his two sons and lives with himself now with little saving. But they all come and feel so happy at seeing the old friends. They don’t smoke and drink just little alcohol, which brings red to their face.

I graduated from my middle school in 1990s, but it seems impossible for my class to manage a meeting since we lost connections for a long time. My grandpa’s class meeting thus is really a miracle. I took some pictures of these cute 70s people and bless them all enjoy health and happiness in their rest life.
