Almost no one can imagine Beijing can enjoy so blue sky and nice weather during the Olympics. Compared with the stifling hours at the opening ceremony, when presidents of different countries were seen sitting quite close, waving the paper fans and wiping sweat, the following days seem to be from another world.
I went to the Olympic Park, where the Bird’s Nest and National Aquatics Center locates, in a dazzling sunny day with bright blue sky. To enter this park, you need either a competition ticket or a visitors’ ticket. For the latter one, you can only get it by relationship for free, not available for “real visitors”. So, not mention the venues, even the park is over safe. You are not even allowed to take any water into this park. If you want to drink, just buy water inside, which is two or three times expensive than outside.
It was noon when I arrived there. the sunshine is in its dazzling height and most of people swarmed into few exhibitions, and near the Bird’s Nest, people in groups were sitting and even sleeping under the trees.
“It is a no-fun Game,” said Christian, a photographer of BBC, “the competitions are great, but here is kind of boring. Why not put a big screen outside the Bird’s Nest and have some music. It is first a festival, but it makes everybody so quiet here.”
Just beside Christian are some artistic and interesting sculptures. While for each sculpture, there are some visitors waiting to take pictures with the sculptures. They all show affected gestures and smiles. After several picture visitors, even the sculpture itself will turn to be very ugly in you impression.
I finally needed to drink, so I went directly to a beverage outlet, where I also saw some boxes of instant rice and noodles on the shelves.
“That is the only food I can get for dinner in this park?”
“Of course not, we have several McDonalds here”, with his finger pointing to a far direction, I saw that bright yellow signal shining as brightly as the sun in a remote place.
“Anything else?”
“No”
Ok, fine.
“We never ate McDonald’s in England, but we have to in China,” said two ladies from England who join an Olympic tour to China and spent most of the time in watching the competitions in different venues, “during the time between two competitions, we really want to enjoy some wonderful food, but obviously it is impossible in this park.”
No food. No music. Cannot wait to leave and the subway station is just in this park. It is actually at this park’s one square which is decorated with strong Chinese characteristics and in the middle of the square is a McDonald’s where a long long line is waiting to get food. There are also many pavilions with benches for people to sit and eat around McDonald’s. Even so, many people still cannot get a seat and have to sit on the ground, holding McDonald’s paper bags, boxes, bottles, eating and drinking their heads off.
What a spectacular scene.
