Tsunehiro Arai 7th dan Shorinji Kempo is a World renowned martial arts instructor and a World Shorinji Kempo Organization chairperson, as well as the president of the Japanese Shorinji Kempo Federation. He has been a chief instructor at the Shorinji Kempo Hombu in Todatsu, Japan for four decades. Arai Sensei is featured in an interview in our Warriors of Budo Episode Seven.
Based on the founder, Doshin So’s time spent at the Shaolin Temple, Shorinji Kempo is a Budo incorporating martial art training, mental training and, health training. The concept is that of “spirit and body are not separable” (shinshin-ichinyo) and that it is integral to train both “body and mind as one” (kenzen ichinyo).
